Hi, I'm Bluebird Lane! Call me Blue.

I am a figurative oil and watercolor painter. I focus primarily on pairing realistic details with oversaturated hues to create more-real-than-life depictions of queer individuals and families by manipulating color to emphasize their expressions and emotion. I aim to depict a range of experiences, from the moments we are most connected to those we feel most alone.

Since I am agender, I am often asked to explain my gender identity. I have no clear definition, but as the saying goes, a picture is worth 1000 words. Whether celebrating queer love or confronting pain and suffering, my paintings put a spotlight on folks who are often misunderstood and misrepresented by others. Trans rights are debated on today’s political stages, but through my art, I want to contribute to a growing visual vocabulary that encourages viewers to see the depth of queer lives beyond tired stereotypes.

Currently, many of my completed paintings are self-portraits. While I joke that this is because I am the most easily accessible model, it honestly has more to do with proving to myself and the world that I am here and that my existence is worthy of acknowledgment. I want to elevate others by preserving moments of their stories on canvas in this same way.
